We all have down days or periods of sadness, whether it's through change or circumstance or just the blues we can't seem to shift. And we all have our own processes for getting through these times.
Receiving support from friends and family can make a huge difference. Small gestures of connection and kindness can boost our sense of self and our sense of happiness - even just for a moment.
So many items in the XOXO range have been inspired by a friend or family member who needed a pick-me-up. Creating something just for them that would bring a smile to their face - it's something I just love to do!
Today, I thought I'd share some of the things I like to offer friends and family to boost their happiness, even a little.
1. Just listen
We can get really caught up in saying the "right thing" or responding to a friend in need. In this modern world of many distractions, it's easy to lose focus on what's happening right in front of us.
So if a friend has worries or sadness or is going through something, my first step is to simply listen, and make sure they know they're heard.
2. Remind them of the things they've done
When we're in a funk, it's easy to forget the goodness in the world and our lives. Small reminders of their past happiness, their brilliant qualities, and that things will be okay again, can make a huge difference.
3. Check in a few days later
If a friend is in crisis, we often dive right in and offer a lot of support up front. But especially for some of the bigger life news (a hard diagnosis, the loss of a loved one), it can be really important to check in after the first wave of sadness.
Even just a text or a note to say you're thinking of them, or asking how they're doing, can help them to feel cared for and supported.
4. Send something delightful in the post!
Popping a gift in the post is just one of my favourite things to do! Flowers, gifts, cards - whatever will delight a friend the most.
I recently created my happiness box for a friend who needed a little lift. Filled with fun, it's helped her to reclaim her own happiness in some small way, and I'm delighted to have helped with that.
Full of happiness helpers, like a gratitude notepad, self care stickers, fun confetti and lots more, the happiness box is a gift that will keep on giving!
